The Faculty of Philosophy at Heidelberg University and the Heidelberg Centre for Cultural Heritage (HCCH) invite applications for a

W2-Startup-Professorship in "Cultural Heritage" (f/m/d)
Fixed Term, 6 years, no tenure track

to be filled from 1 April 2023

The professorship will serve to continue and further establish the research developed at the Collaborative Research Centre "Material Text Cultures" beyond the end of the CRC in 2023. In terms of both structure and content, the professorship is associated with the Heidelberg Centre for Cultural Heritage (HCCH). The HCCH was founded at Heidelberg University in 2013. It is designed to enhance the university’s research and teaching profile in the field of cultural heritage and its transformation(s).

We welcome applications for this professorship from well-qualified candidates with a historical focus on the language/culture/society/literature of the pre-modern period (antiquity, Middle Ages, early modern period), and a focus on research into material (textual) culture; and/or candidates working in the Digital Humanities, or with the ability to use digital methods in research and to reflect on them theoretically and methodologically. Applications will also be strengthened by experience in knowledge transfer (science communication and/or policy advice) and the acquisition of third-party funding.

The tasks of the successful candidate will include teaching in the MA programme "Cultural Heritage and Cultural Property Protection" at the HCCH, and, where relevant, especially in the field of Digital Humanities/Digital Heritage. Furthermore, candidates should be willing to cooperate with existing research networks and projects of the university, especially with the Flagship Initiative “Transforming Cultural Heritage”.

Prerequisites for application are a university degree, qualified Doctorate and teaching experience. A habilitation or, equivalently, tenure or a “second book” or a positively evaluated junior professorship is an additional requirement (in accordance with article 47, paragraph 2 of the Higher Education Law of the state of Baden-Württemberg).
